The authors of the winning films were announced during the Closing Ceremony of the 16th edition of the Tofifest IFF. “Girl” by Lukas Dhont turned out to be a true hit of the festival and a winner of double awards.
The jury of the On Air Competition of Feature Films composed of its chairman Robert Glinski, as well as Julia Kijowska, Lukasz Maciejewski, Agnieszka Zulewska, Adam Woronowicz, and Magnus Von Horn, decided to give Grand Prix Award — the Golden Angel for the best film of the competition to “Girl” directed by Lukas Dhont.
An honourable mention was given to “Dear Son” by Mohamed Ben Atta.
In the Shortcut Competition, the jury led by Magdalena Lazarkiewicz, and composed of Anna Zamecka, Michalina Olszanska, Marcin Bortkiewicz, and Marcin Sauter, decided to give the Golden Angel Award for an innovative and original language in the film and a dense portrayal of the film reality to Raymund Ribay Gutierrez and his “Judgement”.
Special mentions were given to the short drama “Wren Boys” by Harry Lighton, for a clear vision and a narrative far from the obvious, to the animated film “III” by Marta Pajek, for its sensuality and emotional depth, and to the documentary “Prisoner of Society” directed by Rati Tsiteladze, for a painful and one-of-a-kind portrayal of an oppressed man.
As for the From Poland Competition, in which the jury is the audience, the decisive winner was “The Butler” by Filip Bajon.
The Young Jury decided to give an award to “Summer Survivors” by Marija Kavtaradze, for the amazing ease of discussing difficult subjects.
The Student Jury gave an award to “Girl”, too.
The Closing Ceremony was also the moment of awarding the Flisak Awards. They were given to the authors contributing to the promotion of the region of Kujawsko-Pomorskie. This year, this award was presented to an outstanding actress Grazyna Szapolowska, and film producer Dawid Janicki.
Special Golden Angel of Tofifest was awarded to Marshal of Kujawsko-Pomorskie Piotr Calbecki.
A Golden Angel for Lifetime Achievement was given to Maja Komorowska.
The following artists received Golden Angels for Artistic Insolence during the Opening Ceremony on Saturday, 20 October 2018: Marian Dziedziel, Arkadiusz Jakubik, Wojciech Waglewski, and Jafar Panahi.
