The total of 13 films featured in the On Air competition and Joanna Kos-Krauze as the head of jury at the 17th edition of the Tofifest International Film Festival.
Candidates for Academy Awards from Russia and Algeria, the critically acclaimed Oleg featuring Dawid Ogrodnik and Anna Próchniak, as well as stories about mourning, infatuation with a sexual offender, a son joining a paramilitary organisation, or a man losing control of the world he lives: all of that and a lot more discussed in the films featured in the On Air competition during the 17th edition of the Tofifest International Film Festival. In her yearly selection, festival director Kafka Jaworska has singled out 13 hottest film productions to compete for the main prize of the festival. As many as 11 of them will have their Polish premières. The winners to leave the festival with a statuette will be selected by a jury, the head of which is Joanna Kos-Krauze. To help her with the work ahead, she will be accompanied by outstanding personalities from the world of culture: Jakub Gierszał, Łukasz Simlat, Olga Chajdas, Łukasz Orbitowski, and Marija Kavtaradzė.
The following films will compete in the On Air competition:
- Cronofobia, directed by Francesco Rizzi
- The Day I Lost My Shadow, directed by Soudade Kaadan
- Diapason, directed by Hamed Tehrani
- Good Posture, directed by Dolly Wells
- Instinct, directed by Halina Reijn
- Lane 4, directed by Emiliano Cunha
- Let There Be Light, directed by Marko Škop
- My Thoughts Are Silent, directed by Antonio Lukich
- Oleg, directed by Juris Kursietis
- Papicha, directed by Mounia Meddour
- Retrospekt, directed by Esther Rots
- Rialto, directed by Peter Mackie Burns
- Beanpole, directed by Kantemir Balagov
The competing films will be evaluated by a jury comprised of the following people:
- Joanna Kos-Krauze - Head of the Jury and a brilliant film director, whose latest film Birds Are Singing in Kigali won awards at several dozen film festivals in Poland and abroad;
- Olga Chajdas - a film director and screenwriter, whose début full length film Nina won the Main Award in the Big Screen Competition at Rotterdam IFF;
- Jakub Gierszał - an actor, who has been constantly cast in Polish and foreign film productions, ever since he was awarded a Shooting Star at Berlinale, in 2012; winner of the Flisak Award;
- Łukasz Simlat - a multi-award winning actor for his achievements in film and theatre, including the Golden Lions Award at the Gdynia Film Festival for his role in Amok;
- Marija Kavtaradzė - a film director and screenwriter from Lithuania, whose début film Summer Survivors premièred in Toronto;
- Łukasz Orbitowski - a writer and author of television programmes, who holds a Polityka's Passport Award and a nomination for the Nike Literary Award to his name.
Winners of the competition will be presented during the Closing Ceremony of the Tofifest IFF, on 26th October, at the Cultural and Congress Centre Jordanki in Toruń.
