During this year’s edition of the Tofifest IFF. Kujawy Pomorze Region, we have the privilege to present already the third Pola Negri Honorary Film Award funded by Marshal of Kujawsko-Pomorskie Piotr Całbecki. It will go into the hands of the super talented Polish actress Magdalena Różczka.
She was born in 1978, in Nowa Sól. She made her début on stage as early as in secondary school, where she joined the experimental theatre troupe Terminus A Quo. First, she studied computer science and sociology, and then moved on to study at the Acting Department of the Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw. When studying in the Academy, she performed in stage plays directed by some of the best Polish directors, for example in ‘La señora y la criada’ (The princess turned upside down) directed by Anna Seniuk, in ‘Summerfolk’ directed by Eugeniusz Korin, or in ‘Iwona, księżniczka Burgunda’ directed by Zbigniew Zapasiewicz. After graduating from the Academy in 2004, she started performing on stage of the National Theatre in Warsaw in ‘Rozmowy nocą’ directed by Karolina Szymczyk-Majchrzak.
Her film career has been a very intense one since day one. She was cast in many big screen and television films, and some of her most famous roles were in such films as: Rozmowy nocą / Midnight Talks by Maciej Żak (2008), Lejdis by Tomasz Konecki (2008), Po prostu przyjaźń / Re-friending by Filip Zylber (2016), Listy do M3 / Letters to Santa 3 by Tomasz Konecki (2017), 1800 gramów by Marcin Głowacki (2019), or Brigitte Bardot cudowna / Brigitte Bardot Forever by Lech Majewski (2021).
She won the hearts and minds of film critics and viewers with the role of Wanda Ryszkowska in the TV series Czas honoru / Time of Honor (broadcast in the years 2009-2014), which brought her a nomination to the Telekamera Award. In the years 2012-2014, she was cast in the TV series Lekarze, which was shot partly in Toruń. In 2021, she was nominated for the Polish Film Award (the Eagle), in the Best Supporting Female Character category for her performance in the film 25 lat niewinności / 25 Years of Innocence by Jan Holoubek. One year later, in 2022, she received the ‘O!Lśnienie Cultural Award of the Onet portal and the City of Krakow (Nagroda Kulturalna Onetu i Miasta Krakowa O!Lśnienie) for her role in ‘Rojst ’97 / The Mire ‘97’. She was also cast in such TV series as Miasto skarbów (2017), Tajemnica zawodowa (2021-2022), and Rojst. Millenium / The Mire. Millennium (2023-2024).
In 2010, she received the title of the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. She participated in the charity campaign ‘Reszta w Twoich Rękach’, during which as much as 300,000 zloty was collected to support education in Georgia. In cooperation with Fundacja Rodzin Adopcyjnych, she helps create a charity calendar. In February 2024, she was appointed president of Fundacja Ukochani, which supports foster families.
