The film tells a story about two brothers, who live in the country with their old ailing and bedridden mother. The brothers haven’t told her that their farm is in a decline — they have sold all livestock, equipment and land. What’s more, the two brothers are in conflict with each other. Jan, the elder of the two terrorises younger Tomasz and introduces brutal principles of behaviour in the house. He also tries to stop Tomasz from selling the rest of their belongings and move away to the city. Eventually, the younger brother meets a girl — a single mother with a child. Jan finds their affair unacceptable.
