Bulgaria, 1980. For Alex, the childhood bliss in an idyllic socialist town is coming to an end. His father Vasko has fallen into disfavour with the authorities. The police want him to report on Alex’s grandfather, an undisputed “king of dice”. Bai Dan, who is a frequent visitor to a local cafe, where he plays backgammon, is considered to tell too provocative political jokes. Vasko refuses to cooperate and must immigrate to Germany, together with his wife and little Alex. The family falls apart. Germany, 2006. Alex is grown-up now and takes his parents back to Bulgaria...
