The title Kertu lives with her parents in a small village in Estonia. It only takes one glance to see that she does not fit there. She is so withdrawn and shy that other villagers mock her, while her father becomes aggressive considering her to be mentally ill. The girl works as a postwoman and one day she delivers a postcard to a boy she finds attractive. It is a poem — a declaration of love she once wrote for him. Her chosen one is Villu, a local daredevil, who has a reputation of being a womanizer and a drunkard. On the Midsummer's Night, Kertu disappears without a trace. Her agitated parents find her in Villu’s house. What they find there leaves no room for illusions or appearances — soon accusations arise and lynching takes place. Nobody believes in the sincerity of Villu’s intentions, or in Kertu’s sanity. Will the two of them be able to defend their own dreams?
