16th century in Poland. King Sigismund II Augustus is leaving the capital because he cannot stand the presence of his newlywed wife, Elizabeth of Austria. His ill spouse disgusts him, so the king advised by his mother, Bona Sforza, leaves for Lithuania. Being far from the royal court is making him strong and vivacious again — all thanks to Barbara Radziwiłł, a woman he met on the way. This affair quickly becomes a matter of state, but Sigismund II Augustus pays no heed to the pressure of the parliament.
Epitaph for Barbara Radziwiłł is a beautiful love story about the last king of the Jagiellonian dynasty, Sigismund II Augustus, and Lithuanian noblewoman, Barbara Radziwiłł, who later became his wife.
