Ania and Kasia are both 17, nice and full of life. They need to paddle their own canoes, as they cannot rely on their parents. Both girls live in Nowa Huta and are apprentices to a hairdresser, as they plan to become professional hairdressers. Ania and Kasia have developed a strong bond. One day, Ania’s piece of mind is disturbed by the re-appearance of her mother, who the girl has not seen in a long time…
The director offered the following explanation about the film: “I started doing a documentary about Kasia, who has to struggle in life much more than others, and it is entirely not her fault. Her starting position is very low. Then, I started to wonder what such a girl could do to change her social and material statuses. And it occurred to me that a documentary is not enough to tell the whole story. Consequently, I wrote a script for a full-feature film and set Kasia in the centre of it, including the entire world that she lives in, but the all the rest is a completely fictional plot.”
