Selma comes from Eastern Europe. She is a hard worker, who saves every penny. She has come to the United States to earn money for the operation of her son, Gene, who is slowly losing sight. But fate plays a trick on her and she is the first to lose sight, because of a genetic defect. Selma is not depressed, though, as she has a secret that helps her survive. When everyday life becomes too much for her, she uses her imagination to travel to a world of musical. She finds joy in her dreams, which makes it all the more bearable to cope with life, which she loves so much.
