Sinan, who is the main protagonist in The Wild Pear Tree, a pedagogy graduate, returns to his home town of Çan in the northwestern part of Turkey, before taking his last exams. Being a stranger from a bigger city, he treats the local provincial community he left many years ago with a mixture of aversion and understanding. As time goes by, the life in Çan absorbs him more and more, while the dream of becoming a successful writer is becoming much more distant.
