My Brilliant Friend, the new eight-episode series from HBO is based on the first of the four books from a bestseller cycle by Elena Ferrante.
When the most important friend in her life seems to have disappeared without a trace, Elena Greco, an elderly woman, starts writing about their longtime friendship. She starts with remembering the day she met Raffaella Cerullo, known as Lila, which happened in the first year of the primary school, back in 1950. The series is set in a dangerous but fascinating Naples, and the story spans 60 years. Elena attempts to unveil the mystery behind the disappearance of Lila, who is both her confidante and her worst enemy.
