Denmark, during the Middle Ages. The king dies in mysterious circumstances and his brother now takes the throne, married to the widowed sister-in-law. Visited by an apparition of his late father, Prince Hamlet finds out that the king was murdered by Claudius, who only just ascended the throne. Fearing for his life, the Prince keeps the information to himself and pretends ha had gone mad.
