The TV series Catherine the Great takes place in 18th Century, in Russia. This four-episode series offers an insight into the turbulent life of Tsarina Catherine (Helen Mirren) — one of the most powerful rulers in history. We follow the tsarina in her political activities and private life, the latter of which focuses primarily on the passionate love affair with Grigory Potemkin (Jason Clarke). Although the couple must hide their relationship in public, their bond is very special and based on loyalty. Together, they triumph over their enemies and forge a new face of Russia, introducing a number of liberalising reforms. It is a history of the obsessive love affair between the tsarina and a military commander, filled with scandals, intrigues, and conflicts, which will keep you at the edge of your seat.
